Celebrating £100 million raised for charity!

Classic Challenge has been leading the way in charity challenges since we originated the concept in 1992. Since then more than £100 million has been raised for hundreds of charities. 65,000 people have cycled, trekked, run, climbed mountains and ridden horses to all corners of the globe while taking part in a charity challenge event for Classic Challenge.

Knighthood for founder of Classic Challenge

In 2010 Classic Challenge Founder, Sir Erich Reich, was knighted in the 2010 New Year’s Honours List for services to charity. Here Sir Erich Reich talks about what inspired him to create charity challenge events and his motivation for helping charities.

A life-changing experience

Taking part in one of our charity challenges has been a life changing experience for many people. We’re incredibly proud to have enabled them to achieve amazing personal goals while at the same time helping those in society less fortunate.

And the first event was only ever planned as a one-off...

In November 1992, 230 cyclists representing two charities, Ravenswood (now Norwood) and The Edinburgh Medical Missionary Society participated in the first sponsored overseas cycle challenge, ‘From Dan to Beersheba’ in Israel. It was the brainchild of Classic Challenge founder, Sir Erich Reich, who billed it as a ‘Pedal for Peace’ after the first Gulf War to raise funds for a Jewish and a Christian charity.

The 230 participants raised an extraordinary £600,000 net! The following year each charity did their own event and cleared a further £900,000 between them. It was then that Sir Erich realised the huge potential of his original idea.

The rest is history....
